Roots & Wings: Foundations for Senior High (뿌리와 날개: 청소년부 신앙 기초 양육)1

THEME: This 4-week series 'Roots & Wings' is designed for Korean Diaspora youth in Australia and New Zealand. It addresses the twin needs of deep identity formation (Roots) and resilient preparation for the future (Wings). Drawing on 'Sticky Faith' research, it tackles the specific challenges of the 1.5/2nd generation—hyphenated identity, academic pressure, and the danger of faith drop-out—encouraging them to find their true home in Christ and their purpose in His Kingdom.

이 4주 과정 '뿌리와 날개'는 호주와 뉴질랜드의 한인 디아스포라 청소년을 위해 설계되었습니다. 이 과정은 깊은 정체성 형성(뿌리)과 미래를 위한 회복탄력적 준비(날개)라는 두 가지 필요를 다룹니다. '달라붙는 믿음(Sticky Faith)' 연구를 바탕으로, 1.5세/2세대가 겪는 이중 정체성, 학업 압박, 신앙 이탈의 위험을 다루며, 그들이 그리스도 안에서 진정한 안식을 찾고 하나님 나라의 목적을 발견하도록 격려합니다.

WEEK 1: Roots of Identity: Who Am I? (정체성: 나는 누구인가?)

SCRIPTURE: 1 Peter 2:9 (베드로전서 2:9)
KEY VERSE: "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation... (1 Peter 2:9)

[1. PREPARATION & MATERIALS]

Ice Breaker: Two Truths and a Cultural Lie (진실 두 개와 문화적 거짓말 한 개) (10 min)
Needs: None
Description: Share three statements about your cultural habits (e.g., 'I eat Vegemite with Kimchi'). Others guess the lie. 
자신의 문화적 습관에 대한 세 가지 문장을 말하고(예: '나는 베지마이트를 김치랑 먹는다'), 다른 사람들이 거짓말을 맞춥니다.

Application Activity: Identity Map (정체성 지도 만들기)
Needs: Paper (종이), Markers (마커), Stickers (스티커)
Description: Students draw a map of their 'worlds' (home, school, church) and write 'Child of God' in the center connecting them all. 
학생들이 자신의 '세계'(집, 학교, 교회)를 지도로 그리고, 그 중심에 '하나님의 자녀'를 적어 모든 영역을 연결합니다.

1. The Crisis of 'Hyphenated' Identity (Korean-Australian/Kiwi).

2. God's Definition: You are a Chosen People, a Royal Priesthood. 
하나님의 정의: 너희는 택하신 족속이요 왕 같은 제사장이라.
3. Our True Home: We are citizens of Heaven first, immigrants second. 
우리의 진짜 본향: 우리는 이민자이기 이전에 천국 시민입니다.
4. Application: Embracing your dual culture as a bridge for the Gospel. 
적용: 당신의 이중 문화를 복음을 위한 다리로 사용하십시오.

[3. SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS]

Q1: Do you feel more Korean, more Australian/Kiwi, or somewhere in between? Why?

   (Note: Encourage honesty. Many 1.5/2nd gen students feel they don't fully belong to either side ('cultural homelessness').

   (Note: Shift the focus from ethnic anxiety to spiritual confidence.

[4. TEACHER GUIDE]
Teacher's Tip: Many students struggle with the pressure to be 'Korean enough' at home and 'Aussie/Kiwi enough' at school. Affirm that their bicultural background is a gift from God, not a deficit. 
교사 팁: 많은 학생들이 집에서는 '한국인답게', 학교에서는 '현지인답게' 행동해야 한다는 압박감을 느낍니다. 그들의 이중 문화적 배경이 약점이 아니라 하나님이 주신 선물임을 확신시켜 주세요.
